How much do new windows cost?
Windows are an important part of every house. Both aesthetically and structurally, they are a key component to consider when designing a house. The price of new windows can vary depending on a number of factors.
Some of these factors include:
- Size and shape of the window
- Window material and colour
- Number of openings, glassed used, glazing etc.
As with anything else, the more windows you need to replace, along with the window quality desired, the larger the budget. Though an important factor to consider, is the monetary benefit of replacing your windows. Replacing old, poor quality windows with new, high quality windows, will result in a better insulated home. In turn, this will lower your energy bill due to a reduction in the amount of heat escaping from your windows. Depending on the windows chosen, installing energy efficient windows can lower your energy bill by up to 20%.
What to take into account when getting new windows?
There are a number of factors you should take into account when buying new windows for your home. If your windows are worn and need replacing, or you are installing windows for the first time, making the right cost-effective choice for your home is important.
Here are some factors to consider:
Window materials & types
There are many window materials to choose from. At DK Windows, we offer a range of uPVC windows, Timber windows, Aluminium windows and Alucad windows.
Choose between EnergyLine and ClassicLine uPVC windows. All of our uPVC windows come with a high security frame and multi-point locking system. The uPVC range is wide including Elite Windows, Tilt’n’Turn Windows, Sliding Sash Windows and more.
In the Timber window range, choose between FlushLine, FineLine and ClassicLine. The DK range of timber windows are exceptionally engineered. For almost a century, timber windows have stood out for quality, technology, design, innovation and sustainability.
Aluminium windows reduce heat loss in the home, and subsequently, are excellent value for money. We offer a range for your home from CS 77 windows and Masterline 8 windows to SL38 windows. They offer great insulation, minimum maintenance and top security. Some of the windows, such as the SL28, also combine aesthetic design and energy efficiency.
Aluclad windows are made of both aluminium and tinder. Our range includes FusionLine windows and the FineLine windows. Aluclad windows are becoming more and more popular as they offer low maintenance and protect your home against all weather. The timber is from Scandinavian pine trees and is placed in the inside of the windows while aluminium makes up the outside.
Glazing and energy consumption
Choosing between single, double, triple or low e-coating glazed windows is a big decision to make when replacing the windows in your home. We recommend triple or low e-coating glazed windows. Double glazed windows are two panes of glass separated by a vacuum or gas filled space to reduce heat loss. Triple glazed windows are three panes of glass separated by a vacuum or gas filled space to reduce heat loss. Low e-coating is a thin microscopic transparent layer that reflects long wave heat. Some low e-coatings also reflect short wave heat. When the heat tries to escape from inside to the outside during colder months, the low e-coating reflects the heat back in, reducing heat loss. The reverse occurs during the warmer months. Choosing a window that will reduce heat loss will in turn result in a lower energy bill, as mentioned above.
Each window glazing has a U value. A window’s U value measures how effective its material is as an insulator. The lower the U-value, the better an insulator the material is. More effective insulating materials in your home leads to both lower heating and energy costs. Below is a comparison:
Product | U-Value |
Single Glazed | 5.8 |
Double Glazed | 2.8 |
Triple Glazed | 1.8 |
Low e-coating | 1.0 |
